Isaiah Rebukes the Proud Daughters of Zionby emmanuel_higgins

Isaiah 3:23

The glasses, and the fine linen, and the hoods, and the vails.

The items named are mirrors, costly linen garments, head coverings and veils, listed among the ornaments and expensive apparel of the daughters of Zion. Their costly display lays bare the pride and love of display prevailing among them. Thought was given only to appearance and outward show.

The prophecy applies to the last days. Its reproof reaches Sabbath-keepers and young men and women professing to await the coming of the Son of Man. It meets those unwilling to make any sacrifice, who yield to worldly influence, unite with unbelievers, and join picnics and other pleasure gatherings on the plea that the amusement is innocent.

Such love of display and indulgence separates such professors from God and makes them worldly in character. Pleasure and amusement seekers are not owned as followers of God. Only those who are self-denying and live in sobriety, humility and holiness are true followers of Jesus. The genuineness of the faith of world-loving professors will be tested in the perils of the last days amid most distressing perplexity and trial. Those without Christian experience who have carried no burdens and felt no personal responsibility will be humbled to the dust and will long for the experience in the things of God that they failed to obtain.
