Isaiah 32:13

Upon the land of my people shall come up thorns and briers; yea, upon all the houses of joy in the joyous city:

Thorns and briers come up upon the land of God's people and upon all the houses of joy in the joyous city, leaving desolation where prosperity had been. The growth of thorns and briers over the land and its once joyful homes marks the loss of former prosperity. Wild growth spreads where people and settled life had been.

The prophecy concerns Israel, and Israel serves as a type of conditions in the Christian age. It stands in a section of varied prophecies that looks especially toward the last days and God's judgments upon the earth.

The sentence of desolation became a visible reality in Galilee, whose former cities and lively communities had become desolate. Desolation came upon that land and its once joyful homes, with thorns and briers growing where people and settled life had been.
