Isaiah 32:9

Rise up, ye women that are at ease; hear my voice, ye careless daughters; give ear unto my speech.

The passage stands within a section of prophecies concerning Israel, with Israel also serving as a type of conditions in the Christian age. The address to women who are at ease and careless daughters is a summons to rise up, hear the voice, give ear to the speech, awaken, listen, and examine themselves. Applied to mothers, this self-examination means searching motives to recognize pride, self-satisfaction, and neglected duties of love toward others.

Those convicted by what the searching reveals are to repent and reform rather than become discouraged. Mothers are to cultivate love in themselves and in their children and to seek Christ's help to put away sin. The appeal presses with urgency because Christ's return is near.
