Isaiah 33:23
Thy tacklings are loosed; they could not well strengthen their mast, they could not spread the sail: then is the prey of a great spoil divided; the lame take the prey. Thy tacklings are loosed; they could not well strengthen their mast, they could not spread the sail: then is the prey of a great spoil divided; the lame take the prey.
The loosened rigging and the mast that cannot be secured and the sail that cannot be unfurled belong to a portrayal of Christ's kingdom. The ship and its fittings in this prophecy are not literal naval detail but figures standing for spiritual realities. They are to be read as symbols of the order and power of that kingdom rather than as seamanship.
Those who are lame and unable to walk nevertheless divide great spoil and carry off its riches. Complete surrender and endured suffering may leave a person outwardly enfeebled while inwardly strengthening faith. In that condition the weak overcome and obtain by victory what their own strength could never have won for them.
