Isaiah 33:4

And your spoil shall be gathered like the gathering of the caterpiller: as the running to and fro of locusts shall he run upon them.

The spoil of the enemy is gathered up in abundance and in haste, as caterpillars and locusts run to and fro consuming everything they find. It is part of a prophecy concerning Israel in which Israel stands as a type of conditions in the Christian age. It stands in the later part of Isaiah, which relates almost wholly to the days of the Christian dispensation. That portion of Isaiah's prophecies looks especially toward the last days and toward God's judgments upon the earth.

The chapter belongs with a group of prophecies whose descriptions of divine judgment and coming have a millennial connection, and in that setting it is not to be taken as a literal description of the final coming to judgment. It portrays the spoil of the wicked gathered for the final devouring fire, when the wicked are consumed in the lake of fire upon the present earth, and after the fire has finished its work the saints inherit the renewed earth.
