A Seraph Touches Isaiah's Lips with a Coalby emmanuel_higgins

Isaiah 37:16

O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth.

Hezekiah's prayer is a turning to God in crisis that gives a pattern for God's people to follow. To speak of dwelling between the cherubim is to identify them as the place where God's glory is revealed, the glory later called the shekinah that abode in the holy of holies as the center of Israel's worship. The Lord of hosts is here confessed as King, enthroned between the cherubim and sovereign amid the strife and turmoil of nations. He guards His people and keeps them safe, and His purpose does not depend on the strength of the human messengers He employs. When calamity threatens, God's people are therefore to follow this example by approaching Him in humility and prayer, prepared to entrust the situation to Him.
