Isaiah 38:12
Mine age is departed, and is removed from me as a shepherd’s tent: I have cut off like a weaver my life: he will cut me off with pining sickness: from day even to night wilt thou make an end of me. Mine age is departed, and is removed from me as a shepherd’s tent: I have cut off like a weaver my life: he will cut me off with pining sickness: from day even to night wilt thou make an end of me.
This verse belongs to Hezekiah's own account of his grave illness, when he believed his life was ending, from which God restored him to a new lease of life. His remaining years seemed to have departed and been removed from him like a shepherd's tent taken down. His life seemed cut off short like cloth severed by a weaver. Wasting sickness was bringing him steadily toward death from day to night, within a single day.
His life was spared when all other hope had fled by the favor of the living God, the upholder of all created things. God heard his prayer for healing and added fifteen years to his life. His healing came with directions to apply a fig to the affected part, showing that using practical means to aid recovery is compatible with faith in God. That deliverance should have been told to the seekers after truth from Babylon, the messengers from a far-away land, to extol God and acknowledge His supreme sovereignty, glorifying God rather than exalting self.
