And this shall be a sign unto thee from the LORD, that the LORD will do this thing that he hath spoken;
This is the account of Hezekiah's sickness and deliverance, when death had been pronounced upon him and he prayed for life, and God promised to heal him, spare his life, and add fifteen years to it. The sign is the Lord's assurance to Hezekiah that He will do what He has spoken and keep His promise. The sign given was that the sun would go back ten degrees. As part of the promised recovery, God directed that figs, a bunch of figs, be applied to the sore or affected part, and Hezekiah was restored.
God could have healed Hezekiah instantly, yet He chose to work through the directed remedy. The fig remedy was blessed by God and worked in harmony with His healing, so using it did not deny faith.
