Isaiah 41:2
Who raised up the righteous man from the east, called him to his foot, gave the nations before him, and made him rule over kings? he gave them as the dust to his sword, and as driven stubble to his bow. Who raised up the righteous man from the east, called him to his foot, gave the nations before him, and made him rule over kings? he gave them as the dust to his sword, and as driven stubble to his bow.
Isaiah 41:2 belongs to Isaiah 41 to 45, where God very fully reveals His purpose for His people, and those chapters are to be studied prayerfully. It means that God's church has the wisdom of the Infinite at her command and is not to turn away from Him to look to finite man for wisdom. It describes how the Lord raised up a righteous man from the east and called him to His foot and into His service, gave nations before him and made him rule over kings. His enemies were given as dust to his sword and as driven stubble to his bow, and his pursuit was prospered even on a way he had not known, all brought about by the Lord who is first and with the last. The Lord alone is to be trusted, and men are not to trust in men or make flesh their arm.
The chapter containing the verse is to be read in connection with a work in the last days to prepare the way for Christ's second appearing, a preparation that includes giving the gospel to all nations and tongues and peoples. The verse is a declaration from the Lord full of promise and assurance for the latter days. It is given to comfort true righteous believers amid afflicting judgments coming upon the world near the close of earth's history, including earthquakes and storms on land and sea and heavy calamities by sea and by rail. It is to encourage them while Lucifer wars against God and deceives many, its word will certainly be fulfilled, and those who meet its terms in these latter days place themselves where the Lord will surely do all He has promised.
The verse calls God's people to diligent work for repentance and to most earnest work. It warns that the Lord will not be trifled with. It promises that strength will be given to His own people.
