Isaiah 41:21

Produce your cause, saith the LORD; bring forth your strong reasons, saith the King of Jacob.

Isaiah 41:21 belongs to Isaiah 41 to 45, where God's purpose for His people is very fully revealed, and those chapters are to be prayerfully studied. The verse means God's people are not to turn away from His wisdom to look to finite human beings for wisdom, but are to rely on Him and trust in Him alone rather than trusting in men or making flesh their arm. They are to remember that they are His servants whom He will not forget, whose transgressions He has blotted out and whom He has redeemed, and to look unto Him alone, for there is no God else beside Him, for salvation and righteousness and strength.

The chapter containing the verse is full of promises and encouragement and assurance that will certainly be fulfilled. It is given to comfort true believers amid God's afflicting providences coming upon the world in judgments near the closing of earth's history, including earthquakes and storms on land and sea and heavy calamities by sea and by railroad. Those calamities occur as Lucifer, the fallen angel who perverted his higher education, wars against God and all who exalt the Lord, causing disasters and acting as a mighty deceiver who will take many away from the ranks to be deceived. In those judgments many who have greatly sinned against God perish physically, while sincere, humble, righteous followers of Christ also feel and are afflicted by the judgments upon the rebellious.

In these latter days believers are to read Isaiah 41 together with Isaiah 40, 42 and 43, draw all possible encouragement from them, and fulfill them so as to place themselves where the Lord will surely do all He has promised. The Lord presented in the verse is not to be trifled with. He calls upon His people to make diligent, earnest work of repentance, and strength is given to His own people for this.
