Isaiah 41:25

I have raised up one from the north, and he shall come: from the rising of the sun shall he call upon my name: and he shall come upon princes as upon morter, and as the potter treadeth clay.

Isaiah 41:25 belongs to Isaiah 41-45, where God very fully reveals His purpose for His people. The passage containing it is to be studied prayerfully. Its chapter points to a work in the last days to prepare the way for Christ's second appearing.

The surrounding chapters are full of promises and assurance meant to comfort true believers amid the afflicting judgments coming upon the world near the closing of earth's history, including earthquakes, storms, and heavy calamities by land and sea. It teaches not to turn away from God and look to finite man for wisdom, and does not direct God's people to turn from God's wisdom and trust finite human beings. Men must not trust in men or make flesh their arm, for the Lord alone is to be trusted rather than relying on human strength.

The verse gives encouragement that the word of the Lord will certainly be fulfilled, so that in the latter days those who carry out these words place themselves where He will surely do all He has promised. This holds true even while the humble righteous are afflicted by judgments falling on the rebellious and Lucifer deceives many. The Lord is not to be trifled with or treated lightly. His people are called to diligent and most earnest work for repentance while strength is given to them.
