Isaiah 43:27

Thy first father hath sinned, and thy teachers have transgressed against me.

The verse stands in Isaiah 41-45, a portion that very fully reveals God's purpose for His people and should be prayerfully studied. It charges the first father with sin and the teachers with transgression against God, placing responsibility on both ancestors and teachers within a portrayal of Israel dishonoring God through sin. It belongs to a prophecy that God's people would be robbed and held captive.

The chapter contains the Lord's promises and words of assurance, to be fulfilled in the latter days. Its prophecies will be fulfilled concerning God's people in the last days, when God's law is made void.

God does not instruct His people to turn from His wisdom to seek wisdom from finite human beings, but to trust in the Lord alone and to look to Him alone and be saved. They are to remember that they are His servants and will not be forgotten, that He has blotted out their transgressions and sins and has redeemed them and will be glorified in Israel, because there is no God beside Him, with righteousness and strength found in the Lord in whom all the seed of Israel shall be justified. The rebuke applies to those who feel competent to order, dictate to, and rule others harshly, and it calls God's people to repent diligently. The Lord will not be trifled with, so His people need earnest repentance and strength from Him.
