Isaiah 44:2
Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen. Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.
The Lord who speaks is the Maker who made His people and formed them from the womb. He addresses them as Jacob His servant and as Jesurun, also called Jeshurun, whom He has chosen. He commands them not to fear because He will help them.
The verse belongs to Isaiah's revelation of God's purpose for His people, which is to rely on His wisdom and not to turn from God to seek wisdom from finite people. That purpose includes their redemption and a share in His glory. The chapter is a source of God's covenant promises and encouragement to His people, showing what He has promised to do for them.
The promised help is explained in the next verse as refreshment for the thirsty and dry ground through the outpouring of His Spirit and blessing on their descendants. The promise fits workers confronted with a full Health Home, a great city to be worked, multitudes destitute of knowledge of how to care for themselves, and lack of buildings and money to advance the work. His help means refreshing and restoring the thirsty ones around them, and those who invest themselves and their means in that service for God will not be disappointed.
