Isaiah 44:21
Remember these, O Jacob and Israel; for thou art my servant: I have formed thee; thou art my servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me. Remember these, O Jacob and Israel; for thou art my servant: I have formed thee; thou art my servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me.
Jacob and Israel belong to God as His servant because He formed them, even from the womb, and they shall not be forgotten by Him. The verse calls His people to remember this relationship, to trust His wisdom and to seek wisdom from Him rather than turning to finite human beings, which belongs to His revealed purpose for them. Joined to this remembrance is His forgiveness and redemption, for He has wiped away their transgressions and sins like a thick cloud and calls them to return to Him because He has redeemed them.
His people are called to rejoice in that redemption, and heaven and earth, mountains and forests are called to sing because the Lord has redeemed Jacob and glorified Himself in Israel. In its context the verse joins this to His work as Redeemer and Maker of all things who alone stretches out the heavens and spreads abroad the earth. He promises that Judah shall be inhabited and its cities built and its decayed and ruined places raised up and restored. In this He carries forward a special work of supplying the necessities of His created universe, satisfying the desires of the soul and also temporal needs like moistening dry lips and cooling the tongue, showing He is good and gracious in supplying both spiritual and temporal necessities.
The words give comfort and encouragement to those turning from evil, assuring them of forgiveness and redemption. The verse is a covenant promise giving encouragement, one of the promises in Isaiah 44-45 showing what God has done for His people and will do for them as they follow Him.
