Isaiah 44:7
And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them. And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them.
The verse stands in Isaiah 41-45, where God's purpose for His people is very fully revealed, and those chapters should be prayerfully studied. It means that God alone can call events into being, declare beforehand what will happen, set it in order, and show the things that are coming and shall come. He has exercised this power since appointing His ancient people from ancient times. This power proves He is the King of Israel and Redeemer, the Lord of hosts, the first and the last beside whom there is no other God.
Therefore Jacob and Israel, whom He made and formed and chose, need not fear but are His witnesses that there is no other God. His people are not to turn from Him to finite men or human wisdom, but are to look to Him alone for wisdom and salvation. The verse is especially fitting for work among destitute people who lack knowledge of self-care, because God will help His servants, pour water on the thirsty and floods on dry ground, pour His Spirit on their seed and blessing on their offspring, so that many spring up claiming to belong to the Lord.
Spiritual knowledge is to be sought by looking to Jesus. Once received it is to be made to give light to all who are in the house rather than hidden. For God has given His Son as a light of the Gentiles to open blind eyes and to bring prisoners and those sitting in darkness out of the prison house.
