Isaiah 45:14

Thus saith the LORD, The labour of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia and of the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over unto thee, and they shall be thine: they shall come after thee; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down unto thee, they shall make supplication unto thee, saying, Surely God is in thee; and there is none else, there is no God.

The chapter containing this verse reveals God's purpose for His people and what He has covenanted to do for them. It declares that He alone is God, the only God and Saviour. In that setting people everywhere are called to look to Him for salvation, and to seek wisdom from Him rather than from finite human beings.

The same context declares that every knee will bow to Him and that Israel will be justified in Him. The verse fits this purpose by picturing outsiders coming over to God's people, submitting to them, and acknowledging that God is present with them and that there is no other God. It stands among the promises of Isaiah 44-45 that encourage those who keep following on to know God to appreciate what He has done and will do for them.

That encouragement is too little appreciated and should be studied until it arouses action. Because time is passing, it calls for more missionary work and more missionary spirit in the churches, so that God uses His people and His name is glorified even in outlying public places like the highways and hedges.
