Isaiah 46:6

They lavish gold out of the bag, and weigh silver in the balance, and hire a goldsmith; and he maketh it a god: they fall down, yea, they worship.

Men lavish gold out of the bag and weigh silver in the balance to hire a goldsmith or craftsman, who makes it into a god that they fall down before and worship as something made by human hands. That making and worshiping of idols is condemned, and its folly is exposed in trying to liken God and make Him equal by forming a god to fall down before and worship. Such human-made gods are set in contrast with the true God, who is unlike them and has none like Him and none else beside Him.

In its chapter setting the verse belongs to one of the Lord's proofs that He is God, testifying to His unique divine authority as the one Creator, Redeemer, and Saviour and the source of all life and power. Against idolatry the chapter presents the true God calling transgressors to remember the former things of old, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, whose counsel shall stand and who will do all His pleasure and bring to pass what He has spoken and purposed, and who brings near His righteousness and salvation without tarrying to place salvation in Zion for Israel His glory. The verse applies to present idol worship such as Balazi, a gold image supported by the gifts of his worshipers who spend gold and silver for its making and then bow down to it.
