Isaiah 47:10
For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me. For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me.
Trust in wickedness breeds the conviction that no eye observes, so that the proud conclude their deeds lie beyond God's notice and escape His judgment. The wisdom and knowledge in which they confide pervert their judgment, and that self-sufficient learning leads them astray. In Babylon this spirit spoke as a boast to be supreme with no rival, an assertion of unmatched power and security.
That pride and false confidence stood directly before the sudden judgment and desolation foretold for Babylon. The same pattern marks proud oppressors and persecuting powers who depart from the Lord's way, yet God sees them and will bring them into judgment. It was illustrated before the Flood, when men cast off the fear of God and trampled His law, only to be overtaken by judgment.
