God in anger gave His own people, His inheritance, into Babylon's hand, granting Babylon power over them. Babylon showed those captives no mercy, laying its yoke very heavily even upon the ancient and elderly. That cruelty toward captive Israel made Babylon accountable, and became part of the judgment that would bring the proud kingdom down.
