Isaiah 47:7

And thou saidst, I shall be a lady for ever: so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end of it.

Babylon proudly declared to herself that she would continue as a lady and ruling queen forever. That confident claim of permanent dominion bred in her a spirit of carelessness and arrogance. Because of that attitude she did not lay her deeds and their consequences to heart, giving them no serious moral consideration. She likewise failed to remember the latter end of her course, that her power would come to an end. The declaration therefore points to her coming downfall, when she would be brought down from her throne and stripped of her standing as lady of kingdoms.
