Isaiah 47:8
Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwellest carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children: Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwellest carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children:
Babylon is described as devoted to pleasures and living in careless security. In her heart she declares that she alone exists and that no other stands beside her as rival or equal. This arrogant self-assurance is met with sudden and complete judgment.
