Isaiah 48:14

All ye, assemble yourselves, and hear; which among them hath declared these things? The LORD hath loved him: he will do his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm shall be on the Chaldeans.

The chapter surrounding this verse depicts a people who have had truth and warnings repeated to them again and again, yet who will not listen. Into that setting comes the divine summons for all to gather together and hear the declaration of what has been foretold. What is declared is what the Lord in His pleasure will accomplish against Babylon, and what His arm will execute upon the Chaldeans. Even in the face of such refusal to hear, the Lord will press His work onward for the glory of His own name. That warning reaches those who obstruct His work by misrepresentation and falsehood and by rejecting the message of the Spirit. Yet any who turn in repentance may still become living witnesses to His power and grace.

With Isaiah 51, 52, 58, and 60, this chapter sets forth the testing truth for this time, with the commandments of God as its great central subject. That message is to be made straight and plain in a clear voice, to be kept in mind, and to be allowed to stir the soul to seek the Lord and to do the works that are essential to the saving of souls. Such soul-saving seeking of the Lord is to displace the agitating of questions that breed division and confusion and give advantage to enemies.
