Exiles Leave Babylon Singing Through the Blue Gateby emmanuel_higgins

Isaiah 48:20

Go ye forth of Babylon, flee ye from the Chaldeans, with a voice of singing declare ye, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth; say ye, The LORD hath redeemed his servant Jacob.

The call is to go out from Babylon and flee from the Chaldeans, and then to announce with a voice of singing to the very end of the earth that the Lord has redeemed His servant Jacob. The chapter to which this call belongs lays bare the true condition of those who have had truth presented line upon line and precept upon precept, yet have refused to hear and receive warnings, hindering the work by misrepresentation, falsehood, and heresy. The redemption thus announced is carried forward in the hearts of the people not because of goodness and devotion and purity in those in high places, but for the glory of God's own name, lest the enemies of truth triumph.

Joined to the next verse about leading Israel through the desert and bringing water from the rock, the call shows God as the Redeemer who reveals Himself and works for His people wherever they are. It belongs to a portion of Isaiah that sets forth the commandments of God as the great subject for this time. The declaring work it lays upon Jacob and Israel after long forbearance belongs to the work of God's messengers today.

It requires the message to be proclaimed throughout the world with united and determined effort, especially in the cities. It is to be carried in mind to stir souls to seek the Lord and to do the essential work of reaching souls, without turning aside to non-vital questions that bring doubt and division. Fulfilling it means increasing the number of workers, bringing in means for soul-saving, having lay members who have means help without delay, and having all reconsecrate themselves to be in harmony with the Lord God and with Christ His Son. It calls for studying Isaiah chapters 48 through 52 and asking the Lord for willingness to do His bidding, and for resisting temptation to enter commercial enterprises instead of investing means in the Lord's work. If those rebuked by its chapter repent and turn decidedly from their evil, self-exalted way and make straight paths for their feet, they become monuments of almighty power and abounding grace and witnesses for the truth who establish what they once tore down.
