Isaiah 49:12

Behold, these shall come from far: and, lo, these from the north and from the west; and these from the land of Sinim.

The verse promises that people from distant lands, from the north and the west and from the land of Sinim, shall come to God's restored people and share in His salvation. This coming belongs to His work of redemption and restoration, in which He comforts His afflicted, leads and provides for them, shows them mercy, gathers them, and never forgets them. Though Israel rejected Christ and was not gathered by His labor for them, God still glorified Him and drew people to Him from far away. It describes the worldwide reach of the gospel, gathering people from every nation with the message carried from east to west and west to east through witnesses sent to the ends of the earth. This gathering belongs to the ministry of God's messengers today in proclaiming the message throughout the world to bring salvation to people far and wide.

Promised Gathering from Afar

Behold, these shall come from far, from the north and from the west and from the land of Sinim, to God's restored and gathered people and to His salvation and to the Messiah's salvation, joining them from distant lands and faraway places and far countries. The message reaches across the world from east to west and west to east, and the gathering shows God having representatives in every part of the world. It is part of a promise of restoration in which people come from distant lands and return from distant places. In the chapter's setting this coming belongs to the Lord's work of bringing salvation and comfort to His people.

This gathering belongs to God's work of redemption and deliverance and restoration, in which He comforts His afflicted people, leads and provides for them, shows them mercy, gathers them, and does not forget them. Their coming is part of His mercy and comfort for His people and His work of salvation. It belongs to His promise that He will lead and provide for His people, comfort them and show mercy to them, with their gathering as part of His deliverance and restoration. It belongs to His promise of deliverance, provision, and comfort for His people, whom He gathers and does not forget.

In its setting, the gathering is part of His acceptable time and day of salvation in which He preserves His servant, gives a covenant, establishes the earth, frees prisoners from darkness, feeds His flock in the ways and on all high places without hunger or thirst or harm from heat and sun, leads them by springs of water, makes mountains a way, comforts His afflicted people, refuses to forget Zion as graven on His hands, removes destroyers, and clothes Zion with her hastening returning children as with a bride's ornament. The gathering belongs to Christ's work of salvation: although Israel rejected Him and was not gathered as He labored for them, God would still glorify Him, and people would come to Him from far away. The verse is part of the description of the way by which Christlike attributes of character may be obtained, and its promise that people shall come from far, from the north and from the west and from the land of Sinim, is true and righteous, not God tantalizing His people.

Worldwide Gospel Work Today

The verse describes the worldwide reach of the gospel and the gathering of people from every nation and people to the Messiah's salvation and to God's gathered people from faraway lands in the north and the west and Sinim. The message reaches across the world from east to west and west to east, with God having representatives in every part of the world. That spread comes through witnesses sent among the nations to the ends of the earth.

Its promise was literally fulfilled as bearers of the gospel carried salvation to every kindred and people, and the gospel church spread among the Gentiles. The chapter represents the work of God's messengers today, so this coming from distant places belongs to their ministry of bringing salvation to people far and wide. Their coming is part of the Lord's mercy and comfort for His people and His work of salvation, and the chapter so understood shows work still to be done in proclaiming the message throughout the world.

The chapter plainly foretells the great and solemn work of presenting the warning message to the world. It shows the duty to let the world know why believers believe as they do. Camp meetings held in various places afford the opportunity to give people the information they desire and to arouse their slumbering senses to see how far they have departed from the Lord's ordinances. The verse calls upon all to make diligent work for repentance. That includes physicians seeing the importance of establishing small sanitariums in connection with schools, and true medical missionary workers laboring under God's direction with pure, clean principles free from selfishness.
