Isaiah 49:17

Thy children shall make haste; thy destroyers and they that made thee waste shall go forth of thee.

Thy children hasten to Zion while her destroyers and those who laid her waste go forth out of her, and by this going and gathering her restoration is brought to her. The promise comforts God's people and shows mercy on His afflicted, assuring Zion that she is not forsaken and not forgotten. That assurance rests on His having graven her upon the palms of His hands and on His having her walls continually before Him. It is given as the Lord's own declaration, Thus saith the Lord, spoken with great power under the Spirit of God, and it leads on to Zion being clothed with her gathered children as with an ornament, as a bride adorns herself with jewelry. It is a true and righteous promise, and part of the way by which Christlike attributes of character may be obtained.

It shows the work to be done, for God's people are to hasten forward in their appointed work at the same time that those who destroyed and wasted them depart. In this setting it calls for an immediate, united effort to carry the message and to do soul-saving work, with special urgency for the cities.
