Isaiah 49:22
Thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I will lift up mine hand to the Gentiles, and set up my standard to the people: and they shall bring thy sons in their arms, and thy daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders. Thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I will lift up mine hand to the Gentiles, and set up my standard to the people: and they shall bring thy sons in their arms, and thy daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders.
God will lift His hand toward the Gentile nations and raise His signal or standard to the peoples, so that outsiders themselves bring Zion's sons home in their arms and carry the daughters on their shoulders with loving care. In that gathering kings and queens will serve as nursing parents who honor God's people. This gathering reveals the Lord's comfort and mercy to His afflicted, His refusal to forsake or forget Zion, His remembrance of those engraved upon His hands, and His power to contend with oppressors and save His children. These things are certain and not a tantalizing illusion, because God is true and righteous, and they show the way by which Christlike attributes of character may be obtained.
The chapter calls God's people to lift up the standard of Bible truth and carry the message to all peoples, showing God gathering and restoring His people through the nations. The verse describes the work of God's messengers today, meaning ministers are now given as a light to the Gentiles and as God's salvation to the end of the earth, as a covenant of the people to establish truth and to call prisoners in darkness to go forth, show themselves, and feed in the ways. The promise of the Gentiles helping bring God's children belongs to the work God's people are to do in the worldwide proclamation of the message and the saving of souls, including urgent work in the cities.
The chapter foretells the present work of presenting the warning message to the world and explaining the reasons for the faith, carried on through camp meetings in various places to give the information people desire. That work requires money and includes establishing sanitariums in different parts of the world as an educating power to reform people and restore in them the moral image of God. Those converted through knowledge of the Word then use their means and ability to extend truth, while workers awaken the slumbering to see how far they have departed from divine ordinances by adopting worldly policy and conforming to worldly principles in transgression of the law.
