Isaiah 5:28
Whose arrows are sharp, and all their bows bent, their horses’ hoofs shall be counted like flint, and their wheels like a whirlwind: Whose arrows are sharp, and all their bows bent, their horses’ hoofs shall be counted like flint, and their wheels like a whirlwind:
The verse depicts a swift and powerful invading army fully prepared for battle, with sharp arrows, bent bows, horses' hooves hard like flint, and wheels moving like a whirlwind. It belongs to the messages of Isaiah 1 to 5, given to Judah about 760 to 700 B.C. in the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah. It is part of the portrayal of the Lord's vineyard and Judah's backsliding, showing the people's failure to care for what was entrusted to them and the consequences that follow. In that setting it warns of upheaval and judgment connected with the oppression of the poor by the wealthy. The backsliding it describes serves as a type of last-day apostasies. It therefore points to the diligence required in caring for the Lord's vineyard.
