Isaiah 57:4

Against whom do ye sport yourselves? against whom make ye a wide mouth, and draw out the tongue? are ye not children of transgression, a seed of falsehood,

The chapter containing this verse is to be studied carefully and prayerfully by God's people because it can make them wise unto salvation. It belongs with Isaiah 55-58, which pastors and people are to study diligently to be aroused from spiritual stupidity. The chapter teaches that God acknowledges and honors the meek and contrite rather than those esteemed for worldly wealth and riches.

For those in the cities who profess present truth, it urges waking up to give to others what the Lord has given them, arising and shining because their light has come. In giving the precious light of the gospel message to others they will see the glory of God. They are to go forth with full assurance that angels will impress the minds of those for whom they labor.

The children of transgression and seed of falsehood are those who shun the reproach to be borne for Christ's sake, who after conviction turn from truth to accept error, and who resist the Spirit of God and a plain Thus saith the Lord. This includes a wife encouraging her husband to resist and a husband opposing his wife's desire to obey. They do the works of evildoers by resisting truth of heavenly origin with proud superiority even while climbing to places of distinction and standing high in the literary world, and as surely as they do this they will receive the reward of the evildoer and in the end lose all.
