Isaiah 59:11
We roar all like bears, and mourn sore like doves: we look for judgment, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far off from us. We roar all like bears, and mourn sore like doves: we look for judgment, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far off from us.
The verse describes the dreadful present condition of the nation and exposes the cause of its calamity. That calamity came because the people forsook and forgot God, chose other gods and followed their own corrupt ways until God turned from them. This condition was linked to an unrighteous war and to despising the Sabbath, in which the inhabitants of the earth trampled upon God's law and broke His everlasting covenant. The verse also describes the character of the priests and rabbis in the time of Christ, exposing their unbelief, prejudice, and perversion of prophecy that misled the people away from recognizing Jesus as the Messiah. Within Isaiah 59-62 the verse belongs to the definition of Christ's work to save those under Satan's power, to carry out the purposes planned in heaven, and to set in the right light what unrighteous scribes and Pharisees had done in God's vineyard.
The verse is part of a prophecy of the state of the world just prior to the Lord's second coming, showing that the end of all things is at hand and iniquity abounds. That abounding iniquity comes because men have transgressed the law and broken the everlasting covenant given on condition of obedience, and because of continual transgression. It shows the world coming more and more under the sway of seducing spirits as men turn from God and His righteous government, with those professing godliness indulging their own traits of character and, unless conscientiously under God's control, becoming self-indulgent and self-centered. This condition calls for deep humility on the part of God's people and for everyone to be prepared for the day of God.
