Isaiah 59:7

Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths.

The verse portrays people who run eagerly to evil, hasten to shed innocent blood, entertain thoughts of iniquity, and leave wasting and destruction in their paths. It describes the present state of the nation as having forsaken and forgotten God, chosen other gods, and followed corrupt ways until God turned away from them, while the inhabitants of the earth trampled upon God's law and broke His everlasting covenant. The evil, violence, bloodshed, and destruction it depicts is the calamity that comes when people forget God, trample His law, break the everlasting covenant, and despise the Sabbath.

The wrongdoing it depicts defines the work of Christ in setting God's vineyard right. In Christ's time it described the character of the priests and rabbis who opposed Him. They repeated the prophecies of the Messiah's glorious reign and dominion and then perverted those words by contemptuous comparison with His humble appearance, and by false reasoning misled many who were convinced He was the Son of God. Had the people sincerely studied the word for themselves and compared written prophecy with the facts of the life of Jesus, they would not have been misled.

The verse belongs to the prophecies describing the condition of the world just before the second coming, when iniquity abounds as people transgress God's law and break the everlasting covenant that was given on condition of obedience. It condemns sinful works and violent, unjust schemes. Those works and schemes are part of a crooked way that has no peace.
