Isaiah 64:4
For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him. For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.
There is no God besides the true God, unheard and unseen elsewhere. He works for the one who waits for him, and that working is the Father's love in giving Christ so that believers are called sons of God. Waiting for him means trusting and relying on him even while walking in darkness with no light.
What he has prepared for those who love and wait for him lies beyond what human eye has seen, ear has heard, or mind and understanding have perceived. The reward prepared for the righteous is greater than human language can describe and will be fully known only by those who behold it. That promised inheritance is not unreal or merely spiritual, but a real country and home with living waters, fruitful trees, peaceful plains, and beautiful hills and mountains. The verse points to the more beautiful, sinless home God is preparing, of whose wisdom and goodness the natural world gives a glimpse. God makes these prepared things known through his Spirit, who knows even the deep things of God. The ability to appreciate those glories in the future life will be proportionate to how the mind's faculties have been cultivated in this life, for knowledge and capacities gained in seeking what is imperishable fit a person to value them.
The verse belongs to God's reproof to leaders in his cause and those connected with his institutions who carry great responsibilities and have disregarded reproof, and with chapters 62-65 it speaks in a most decided manner once chapters 60 and 61 are heeded and understood. It calls those leaders to study chapters 50-58 and 60-65, to receive great light with faith and follow on to know the Lord, to make thorough work of consecration instead of accepting only chosen words, and to warn the people as to what is truth. It calls them to put away the evil of works, come nigh, repent and be converted because human ways are not accepted of God, to stop all complaining and every evil work, and to let reformation go through the congregation. When its words are taken to heart and complaining and evil working cease, the Lord appears in power for the conviction and conversion of souls now unwarned.
