Isaiah 65:4

Which remain among the graves, and lodge in the monuments, which eat swine’s flesh, and broth of abominable things is in their vessels;

Isaiah 65:4 belongs to a prophecy of the new earth, not to a description of this old sin-cursed earth in its mortal state, and it does not teach the conversion of the entire world in this life. The new earth will restore animals from the effects of the curse to their place at creation before the fall, where the leopard lies down with the kid and the lion eats straw like the ox.

The verse records God himself speaking against eating swine's flesh, grouping it with broth of impure things. The uncleanness lies in the nature and habits of the swine itself, which make it unfit for human food, and not in Jewish prejudice or in an arbitrary temporary rule intended only for Jews. Eating it characterizes a rebellious people who walk after their own thoughts in a way that is not good and provoke God to anger continually to his face. Its words apply to the present age and not only to the Jewish age, because God does not change.

The verse applies to failure to seek the lost sheep, requiring the church to see and acknowledge its wrong and clear itself of guilt for neglect before George Lay can be reached and brought into the fold. The chapter speaks in a most decided manner to those in high positions carrying great responsibilities who have disregarded reproof and neglected to warn God's people to understand truth. It calls them to stop complaining and evil working, to put away the evil of their works, to come near, repent and be converted, because their ways are not accepted of God. When its words are taken and obeyed, the Lord is revealed for the conviction and conversion of souls, and a reformation goes through the congregation of Israel.
