Isaiah 66:3
He that killeth an ox is as if he slew a man; he that sacrificeth a lamb, as if he cut off a dog’s neck; he that offereth an oblation, as if he offered swine’s blood; he that burneth incense, as if he blessed an idol. Yea, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delighteth in their abominations.
Isaiah 66:3 exposes a deep moral and spiritual failure in those who have received great light yet choose their own ways and delight in abominations. That condition is marked by an absence of grief or alarm over their moral and spiritual state. They insist on going their own direction and taking pleasure in what is detestable, while supposing they are building on the right foundation and that God accepts their works.
Religious profession and works do not honor God when they conceal sin and follow worldly policy rather than truth. In reality such persons follow worldly policy, disregard the Bible standard, and break the law of Jehovah that guards the interests of all for whom Christ died. They mistake outward godliness for its spirit and power, claiming to be rich and supplied with everything when they are poor and lack everything. God answers them by leaving them to the deceptions they chose and bringing upon them what they fear.
