Isaiah 7:17

The LORD shall bring upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon thy father’s house, days that have not come, from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah; even the king of Assyria.

Isaiah 6 and Isaiah 7, including this warning of unprecedented days of trouble through the king of Assyria, belong to those sunk in perpetual backsliding who hold fast deceit and refuse to return. They belong to those who have rejected the word of the Lord and put their trust in lying words. They belong to those who steal and murder and commit adultery and swear falsely while walking after other gods.

For such readers the warning presses the need to amend ways and doings and to execute just judgment between one another. It presses the need to oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and to shed not innocent blood. It presses the need to obey God's voice and to walk in all the ways He has commanded, and to come and hear and live under His everlasting covenant.
