Isaiah 7:23

And it shall come to pass in that day, that every place shall be, where there were a thousand vines at a thousand silverlings, it shall even be for briers and thorns.

The chapter in which this verse stands is to be read together with the preceding chapter as added light on the same divine dealing. Together they warn against continual backsliding and against refusing to return, against rejecting the word of the Lord and trusting in deceptive words, and against going backward instead of forward. Together they also press the call to amend ways and doings, to practice justice, and to obey the voice of God. That call is to come and listen and live, receiving wine and milk freely without price under the everlasting covenant.
