Isaiah 9:10
The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones: the sycomores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars. The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones: the sycomores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars.
The verse stands in the first part of Isaiah, which gathers distinct prophecies and historical accounts from Isaiah's active work among the rulers and people. The prophecy containing it speaks of the Messiah's birth as already accomplished more than five centuries before it occurred, because prophetic language may cast future events in present or past forms. It held out blessings for the Jewish nation and the Gentiles on condition of believing in Christ and obeying the gospel, and those conditional promises remained unfulfilled because the people rejected Christ.
