James 5:13

Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.

Is any among you afflicted, let him pray.
In illness this means the sick person is to seek God in faith, follow the directions given in the chapter, and trust Him with both soul and body.
After doing what is required, the afflicted person may entrust soul and body to God's care, trusting God to raise up and heal both soul and body if doing so serves His glory.

The call to pray includes asking fellow believers for earnest prayer, and trust in God's promise to answer brings relief, as shown when distress from a severe cough stopped after united prayer.
The verse also calls anyone who is merry or glad to sing psalms, so relief from affliction is fittingly followed by gratitude and praise to God.

The chapter's call to prayer applies to seeking the Lord's help for a sick child, trusting that the Lord can work even when earthly physicians have not been consulted.
Affliction calls for faith and a cheerful response, and bringing Jesus into personal experience as the powerful healer gives comfort and encouragement under affliction.
