Jeremiah 10:14

Every man is brutish in his knowledge: every founder is confounded by the graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

Every person who makes an idol or puts trust in one is brutish and foolish in knowledge, for human wisdom and understanding fail apart from God. The founder who carves or casts a graven or molten image is confounded and put to shame by what he has formed. His work is falsehood, lifeless and without breath in it.

These powerless objects cannot create or give life, and they stand in stark contrast to the Lord as the living God and Creator who made the world and rules and sustains it. To profess wisdom while turning from Him to falsehood is folly. That contrast upholds God as Creator, whose Sabbath memorial keeps His existence, greatness, wisdom, and love in remembrance. Idols are worthless works of error that will perish when they are judged.
