Jeremiah 10:20

My tabernacle is spoiled, and all my cords are broken: my children are gone forth of me, and they are not: there is none to stretch forth my tent any more, and to set up my curtains.

The verse is a cry of grief over the desolation that backsliding brings upon the Lord's people when they are scattered and ruined. The picture is that of a household tent spoiled and collapsed, with all its cords broken, its children gone forth and lost, and no one left to stretch the tent out again or to set up its curtains. That scattering comes because the pastors have become brutishly foolish and have not sought the Lord.

The same lament reaches to Jerusalem's rejection of Christ, when those who refused Him turned others away from the truth and left ruin behind them.
