Jeremiah 11:5
That I may perform the oath which I have sworn unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. Then answered I, and said, So be it, O LORD. That I may perform the oath which I have sworn unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. Then answered I, and said, So be it, O LORD.
The oath recorded here was sworn to the fathers, including Isaac, pledging to them the promised land of abundance and plenty. That oath was to be performed through the covenant commanded when Israel was brought out of Egypt, out of the iron furnace. Its fulfillment was conditional upon obeying His voice and doing all He commanded, and then they would be His people and He would be their God.
From that day onward He earnestly protested to them, rising early to urge obedience. But they did not obey or incline the ear, and walked every one in the imagination of his evil heart. Because they did not fulfill their promise to obey and followed their own impulses, they did not receive the blessings He wished to bestow on them. By that course they disqualified themselves from being recognized as His peculiar treasure.
