Jeremiah 11:6
Then the LORD said unto me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them. Then the LORD said unto me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them.
The Lord directed that all the words of the covenant be proclaimed publicly throughout the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, with the call to hear them and do them. That proclamation was made in the temple courts at the beginning of Jehoiakim's reign. The words to be heard and done were Jehovah's plain precepts as recorded in Scripture.
The covenant so proclaimed was the one commanded to the fathers in the day they were brought out of Egypt, out of the iron furnace. Its terms were to obey God's voice and do all that He commands, so that they would be His people and He would be their God, in order that He might perform His oath to give them a land flowing with milk and honey. Disobedience to its words brings a curse. From the Exodus until that day God earnestly protested, rising early to urge obedience, yet the people did not obey or listen but each walked in the imagination of his evil heart. Because they did not fulfill their promise they did not receive the blessings God wished to bestow, and by following their own impulses they disqualified themselves from being recognized as His peculiar treasure. Made so public, the call left no excuse for any soul to turn away from truth and righteousness.
