Jeremiah 13:10
This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing. This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.
This evil people are those who refuse to hear God's words, walk in the imagination of their own hearts and after other gods to serve and worship them, and thereby become worthless like the ruined girdle in the sign-act. That saying stands within Jeremiah's denunciation of Israel's sin, idolatry and wilfulness. Alongside the denunciation runs an appeal for the people to return to God, an appeal they largely ignore. The denunciation warns that such idolatry and wilfulness would bring punishment upon them through Babylon.
