Jeremiah 13:11

For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the LORD; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

As a girdle clings to a man's loins, God caused the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to cling closely to Himself as His people. He wanted them to belong closely to Him to be unto Him for a people and for a name and for a praise and for a glory. He gave them every spiritual advantage needed to develop character and to represent Him. Their obedience to His law would make them prosper among the other nations.

That prosperity meant He would teach them wisdom and skill, ennoble them, preserve them from disease, and give them intellectual vigor. Their prosperity was to reveal His majesty and power. They were to become a kingdom of priests and princes, the greatest nation on earth.

God's people are still to live out saving truth so that their lives make them a praise on the earth.
