Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the LORD hath spoken.
God commands to hear and to give ear and to put away pride, because the Lord Himself has spoken. Pride must yield to His voice as it comes in His message and through His messengers, so that to despise them is to despise the Word of God. The warning meets those who recognize the truth yet refuse to follow it because they fear losing their position, oppose the counsel of leaders, and prefer human approval to God's message.
Every rejected appeal hardens the heart and puts the rejecter in the place of mockers until light is no longer recognized. Refusing conviction and turning from truth brings spiritual darkness that leaves people vulnerable to error and stumbling and allows darkness and error to replace light.
Giving God glory means believing the light while it is present and walking in it before He brings darkness, before feet stumble on the dark mountains and hoped-for light is turned into the shadow of death and gross darkness, so the call is to glorify Him before judgment falls. If His people will not hear, the result is weeping over pride and the Lord's flock being carried away captive.
