Jeremiah 14:14

Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.

The verse exposes those who profess to speak in God's name although He has not sent them, nor commanded them, nor spoken to them. What they set forth as vision and divination is worthless, a thing of nothing that comes from the deceit of their own hearts. Not every dream or vision is from God, for some dreams arise merely from ordinary life, while some false dreams and visions are inspired by Satan.

Dreams truly given by the Lord stand together with visions as fruits of the Spirit of prophecy. Their genuineness is shown by who receives them and by the circumstances in which they are given. Such false messages offer smooth promises of peace and safety that appeal to people unwilling to face their sin. That warning applies to the delusions of Spiritualism.
