If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine! yea, both the prophet and the priest go about into a land that they know not. If one goes out to the open field, the sight is those cut down by the sword lying there. If one enters the city, the sight is those made sick by hunger wasting there. Even the prophet and the priest are uprooted and roam about into a land they do not know.
The word denounces sin. It voices grief over the transgression of the people. It calls them to turn back to God. That call finds little answer.
