Jeremiah 14:21
Do not abhor us, for thy name’s sake, do not disgrace the throne of thy glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us. Do not abhor us, for thy name’s sake, do not disgrace the throne of thy glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us.
The verse is a confessing prayer in which both personal sins and the sins of ancestors have been acknowledged, offered in dependence on God and in waiting for Him. It is the prophet's plea for those who turn from evil to righteousness, made out of confidence that God purposes to bring order from ruin and to reveal His justice and love.
It pleads that God not abhor or reject His people for His name's sake, not disgrace the throne of His glory, but remember His covenant with them and not break or abandon it. Those who pray this are sinful, undeserving and unworthy of favor, yet their appeal is grounded not in their own merit but in God's name, the honor of His throne, and His covenant. God Himself has put and provided this plea on the lips of unworthy sinners.
God has pledged to hear and heed the cry of those who come confessing their sin and unworthiness, so the verse is a fitting appeal. The honor of His throne is bound to His fulfillment of His promise and faithfulness to His word. The rainbow around the throne assures such sinners that God is true and unchanging, and the great High Priest remembers His people and His covenant.
