Jeremiah 15:7

And I will fan them with a fan in the gates of the land; I will bereave them of children, I will destroy my people, since they return not from their ways.

Jeremiah 15:7 belongs to a section of Jeremiah containing warnings addressed to the Jews. It gives its warning through striking symbols and figures of speech, such as the fanning in the gates of the land. It denounces sin, exposing the idolatry, treachery, and shamelessness of Israel. It appeals to the people to return to God from their ways, yet most do not respond to the messages given through the prophet, leaving a desperate state of sin over which the prophet weeps.

It exposes that outward form of temple worship is of no avail while the people remain ungodly and wilful. It declares that their wilfulness will soon be punished, with bereavement of children and destruction brought by Babylon as the swift avenger. Its warnings and appeals remain applicable to the present day.
