Jeremiah 16:11
Then shalt thou say unto them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, saith the LORD, and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshipped them, and have forsaken me, and have not kept my law; Then shalt thou say unto them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, saith the LORD, and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshipped them, and have forsaken me, and have not kept my law;
Jeremiah's answer belongs to his denunciation of Israel's idolatry and disobedience. The sins laid to the fathers are forsaking the Lord, walking after other gods, serving them and worshipping them, and not keeping His law. The present judgment upon the people follows from those ancestral sins, with forsaking God named as its cause.
It stands as an awful denunciation against sin, spoken in sorrow of heart over transgression. In it sounds a touching appeal to return to God, which the mass of the people fail to answer.
