Jeremiah 16:13 belongs to the prophecies of Jeremiah 3 through 21 warning against Israel's idolatry and unfaithfulness. Its meaning stands out clearly as an awful denunciation of sin joined with sorrow of heart over the people's transgression. The unfaithfulness denounced would bring punishment through Babylon. Temple worship would not protect the people while they remained ungodly.
The verse makes a touching appeal to return to God. The mass of the people fail to answer that appeal.
